Have you always wanted to become more involved with the ministries of our church but just weren’t sure where to begin? Below are some ministry areas that are in need of help beginning in January 2012. We invite you to join one of these committees. We appreciate your gift of time and value the talents of all!
Please talk to Pastor Jim if you have any questions or would like more information.
Staff-Parish Relations Committee
NEED: CHAIR of COMMITTEE
The Staff-Parish Relations Committee is the administrative committee at WUMC where staff and congregational interests are integrated to focus on the mission of the church. The committee is truly a relations committee because the committee relates to all staff, both bishop-appointed staff and employed staff. The committee has some of the same functions of a personnel office or Human Resources department in other organizations. The primary responsibility is to work with staff so that the mission of the church is realized.
Some of these functions include forming relationships between all staff and the congregation, providing feedback, information and communication to the staff and congregation, hiring, and preparing for the annual charge conference.
This committee meets as needed on a regular basis.
Finance Committee
NEED: 3 COMMITTEE MEMBERS
The job of the committee on finance is to identify, perfect, and manage the finance system for the congregation. The finance system is the processes of raising, managing, and dispersing the finances so that the mission and vision of the congregation can be achieved.
The main task of the committee include:
- Provides financial direction for the congregation and regularly reports to the church council and to individual members.
- Recommends an annual budget to support the mission and ministry of the church.
- Develops plans for the annual funding program to ensure that the financial needs of the church are met.
- Provides financial communications.
- Provides financial reports and substantiation.
- Nurtures growth in giving and generosity.
This committee meets monthly, typically on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm.
Education and Family Ministries Committee
NEED: 1-2 COMMITTEE MEMBERS
Education and Family Ministries supports the church through activities and events for the entire congregation that promote fellowship and togetherness of families. The committee also works closely with our Children's Ministry Coordinator, Deonne Senese, to coordinate activities for Sunday School.
These events include: Easter Egg Hunt, Lenten Event, Vacation Bible School, Harvest Celebration, Advent Event, and Christmas Pageant.
This committee meets monthly, typically on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm.
Outreach Committee
NEED: 3 COMMITTEE MEMBERS
The Outreach Committee provides opportunities for our church to participate in ministries that reach out to our local community, the nation, and the world. We support United Methodist ministries as well as many local charitable organizations, such as Public Action to Deliver Shelter (P.A.D.S.), the West Suburban Community Pantry, the South DuPage CROP Walk, and our sister congregation, Lincoln UMC. We also organize holiday food box drives during Thanksgiving and the Christmas season.
This committee meets monthly, typically on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm.
Lay Leadership Committee (Formerly Nominations Committee)
NEED: 5 COMMITTEE MEMBERS
This committee or team serves throughout the year to guide the administrative council on matters regarding the leadership of the congregation (other than employed staff). Members of this committee must be sensitive to the leadership needs of the congregation and know the capabilities, gifts, skills, and experience of the persons in the congregation.
This committee meets as needed during the year, most importantly near the time of the annual charge conference.
If you have any questions or would like additional information on these committees or your commitment, please do hesitate to contact Pastor Jim Galbreath at (630) 968-6050.
