Small Groups and Bible Study

Lenten Book Study

Our Lenten Study will begin Sunday, February 26th and continue through Palm Sunday. It will be based on Adam Hamilton book "24 Hours That Changed the World".

No single event in human history has received more attention than the suffering and crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth. In this book, Adam Hamilton guides us through the last twenty-four hours of Jesus' life. Each chapter is designed to help the reader experience and understand the significance of Jesus' suffering and death in a way you have never done before. Whether readers are long-time Christians or simply curious about the story of Christ's crucifixion, they are invited to join the author in retracing the last 24 hours of Jesus' life.

Sign up in the Church Narthex. Books are available for $13 each. We will be offering this study weekly for 5 weeks beginning February 26th.

The class dates will be:

  • Sunday mornings during Adult Sunday School Class
  • Monday evenings at 7:00pm
  • Wednesday evenings at 7:00pm
  • Thursday mornings at 9:30am

Adult Sunday School

Adventurers

The Adventurers Group is a group of "mature" adults from WUMC who have been socializing and forming close friendships since our very first Progressive Dinner in January, 1986.  We meet the 3rd Saturday of the month, and each couple or single sign up for a given month.  We go to a restaurant together and usually follow with fellowship at the host's home.  We have attended plays, had pot luck dinners, etc.  We are always welcoming newcomers. Save the 3rd Saturday, and look for news in the bulletin and our newsletter.

The Adventurers' next outing is Saturday, February 18th at 5:30pm.

Tom and Carole Strong will host the Adventurers at their home, 1572 Benzie Circle, Romeoville (directions available), on Sat. February, 18th at 5:30pm. Pasta will be served with soft drinks and coffee provided. Please bring an appetizer, salad or dessert. Enjoy a night of fellowship and games. Please respond by Tuesday, February 14th by e-mail tdstrong43@sbcglobal.net or phone 815-609-3031.

Creative Cut-ups

Creative Cut-ups is a group of ladies that enjoy the challenge of recycling cards. We normally meet the second Monday of the month at 9:30am, September through May. We make new ones and sell them to earn money to give to Missions. So, remember to save your used cards for us and to purchase new ones from us. Please shop our card box on the back wall of the Lobby. 3 cards for $1.00 and all our proceeds go to missions.

We enjoy each other's company and would welcome any newcomers. The fellowship is great!

Our next meeting is Monday, February 13th at 9:30am in the WUMC Kitchen.

Emmaus Board

The Emmaus Board of Directors are responsible for conducting “Walk to Emmaus” and “Chrysalis” Christian spiritual growth retreat weekends in the Chicagoland area. These weekends are for adults, young adults and high school students. These retreats are programs by the Upper Room of the Methodist Church. Emmaus Board meet the third Friday of the month at @ 7:30pm. For further information, please contact the church office.

Creations with Love

Creations with Love meet the third Wednesday of the month at 10:00am. We share a time of creating together - crafts, cooking, gardening, needlework, etc. Each member signs up to be the “hostess” for one month. She decides what our project will be and provides chips, beverage and dessert for our lunch. Each member brings a sandwich (cut in quarters) which we serve on a platter and share. Our experiences together have resulted in new friendships made, old friendships strengthened, self-esteem developed, and appreciation for each other realized.

Emmaus Reunion Group

The Walk to Emmaus is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders.  At our Wednesday Emmaus Reunion, members share their daily walk in a non-judgmental yet accountable process with each other. The program's approach seriously considers the model of Christ's servanthood and encourages Christ's disciples to act in ways appropriate to being "a servant of all."   This is our invitation for you to join us Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:30pm in the Adult Lounge off of the Narthex.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous® is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. Alcoholics Anonymous meets every Sunday at 6:30pm. (Copyright © by The A.A. Grapevine, Inc.)
