Wednesday Night Live

Wednesday Night Live returns Wednesday, September 8th with a special kick-off celebration and performance from CTI Music Ministries. All youth, 7th to 12th grade, are welcome and invited. This is a great night to bring a friend! Parents are also invited to see what we’re all about.

Join us at 6:15pm to 8:15pm! We are grilling out so expect a festive atmosphere. There will be live music, games and worship — all under the big top in the front lawn of WUMC!

Please contact Pastor Dave if you have any questions.

All COMMUNITY Picnic

Woodridge United Methodist Church is hosting an All Community Picnic Sunday, September 12th at 11:30am!

Join us for food, fun, fellowship, music and games for all ages in the front lawn of our church located here in Woodridge.  We will also be holding a Ministry Fair featuring booths and information from all our vibrant ministries. Come for worship and stay for the fun!

Join Us. All are Welcome!

Shrink The Pastor

Less Pastor is better!

Pledge per pound that Pastor Jim can lose weight, starting August 15 and ending September 30. Wouldn't you give money to see less of the pastor? His goal is to lose a pound a week, but give him an incentive to try for even greater shrinkage!

Pledge sheets are available in the narthex. Please take one and ask anyone you can to pledge. And remember, all this goes to the very worthy cause of helping our brothers and sisters in the Philippines as they grow their ministries! For more information, please contact the church office.

Blood Drive

WUMC Blood Drive will be held on Sunday, September 19th. More details coming soon.

Parents Matter Most!

When it comes to the religious formation of their children, that is. According to the National Study of Youth and Religion, “parents are by far the most important predictors of young people’s religious lives.”

And the honest truth is that we here at WUMC haven’t done enough lately to nurture the spiritual growth of our young people’s parents. Well, that stops now! At least once per quarter this year we’ll offer an opportunity for parents to gather, learn, chat, encourage and even commiserate. And, most likely, eat.

First up: Dinner & a movie! Friday, September 24 from 6:00-8:30pm we invite you to WUMC to share a meal and view a film. Parents will watch American Teen, an eye-opening documentary that follows the lives of 5 Indiana teenagers. It’ll make you laugh, cry or cringe, but this movie will move you. (As a documentary it isn’t rated, but some content is PG-13 or more. Forewarned is fair-warned, right?)

Meanwhile child care is provided as our children will see an age-appropriate film of their own.

Everyone is welcome to attend. Parents of kids in older elementary through high school are especially encouraged to participate.

Youth Council will provide the main course and beverages. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share.

Please RSVP! A sign-up sheet is in the Narthex or email Pastor Dave.

PADS News

It’s almost time again! Our commitment for PADS starts up again in October.  As in the past we will provide food and volunteers to feed and house the homeless on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, October 19th and 20th at First United Methodist on Maple in Downers Grove.

Watch for sign up sheets in the Narthex in mid September.  We are especially looking for people to help with set up at 4:30pm on Tuesday and clean up 5:45am on Wednesday morning.  We are also looking for one man to work as a monitor from 10:00 pm Tuesday to 2:00 am Wednesday morning.  If you can help with any of these times, please contact Debbie Wordinger (630) 985-4977 or email wordingerd@comcast.net.

Storytelling Event

Prairie Wind Guild: Tellers of Sacred Stories offers its fall Storytelling Event September 18th, 9:30am to noon, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 1105 Catalpa Lane, Naperville.

Participants will experience an “epic telling” of Scripture from Luke, and also learn a Bible story and share how the stories of Luke connect with the stories of our lives. Deacon Beth, the guild coordinator, will present a workshop on Holy Land Geography as it informs our Telling.

Prairie Wind Guild has been growing and has more than doubled the workshops it is offering in the Chicago area each year. In addition to the three storytelling events planned each year, the guild is offering at least four story sharing workshops, informal opportunities for sharing, practice and coaching. For more information, check out www.prairiewindguild.org.

VIM Philippines Mission Trip

VIM Philippines Trip dates are February 3rd through 17th, 2011.

The next VIM Informational Meeting will be held on Sunday, September 19th after second service.

Storytelling Class

Deacon Beth will be teaching the Storytelling class at this fall’s Aurora District Lay Academy. And since it’s being held right here at Woodridge UMC, it’s extremely easy to attend!

The dates are Saturday, November 6 and 13, 8:30am to 4:00pm. The class includes both Saturdays. The Storytelling class counts as an advanced class for lay speakers, but anyone is welcome in the class, lay speaker or not.
