Outreach

Every year, we at Small Miracles Preschool try to find ways to give back to our community.

One way we try to help is by collecting items to donate to the local food pantry.

In November is the “Soup-er Highway.”

In 2011, we introduced an outreach project that involved all 5 of our preschool classes!  It is a canned soup/food collection.  The “soup-er highway” runs along the preschool hallway walls and on top of the cubbies.  When the collecting time is over, the West Suburban Food Pantry sends out a volunteer  to the Preschool, in a big truck, and the children will help load all the cans! The generous families at Small Miracles regularly surpass our goals!

Every February has our “Tower of T.P.”

The Pre-kindergarten classes collect packages of toilet paper for the food pantry.  The class collects well over 150 rolls each year!  Stacks or "towers" are made with the donations to become our "Tower of TP."  Our goal is to have the packages reach the ceiling! The children love watching the tower grow and are excited to celebrate with a popsicle party when the goal is reached.

In April is “Share a Pair.”

The Yellow Room gives back with  and collects new packages of socks and underwear to donate to the Sharing Connection in Downers Grove.  The Sharing Connection provides used and new items to families coping with crisis like domestic violence, returning or homeless veterans, job loss or financial hardship.

These are wonderful opportunities to talk to your child about being thankful for the things they have and how not everyone has the food and things they need. It’s a great opportunity for them to experience the feeling of helping others less fortunate. The teachers will also use the donations as part of their lessons.
