Privilege and Promise: This is America

Aug 30, 2020 | Rev Danita Anderson

God's Law and Order

We are winding up our summer sermon series:  'PRIVILEGE AND PROMISE:  THIS IS AMERICA".  We will talk a bit about police reform.  Pastor Dave and I still have a few more topics to cover yet and we haven't decided when that will be, so hold on.

We live in a day and time where there has been an all out attack of our police departments.  Conversely enough, there are more incidents of police brutality than we have ever seen before.  Protests, violence, police response sometimes with brutality......what is the world coming to?

How did the whole idea of policing come about?  What is it's history and what will be its legacy?  And why are the politicians using "law and order" as part of their campaign platforms?  These questions will plague us for quite a while.

What can be done to redeem, reform and restore our world back to the "law and order" that God intended for us?  Where are the places that we can be supportive and help make that change?  Why is it our responsibility anyway?  How can we begin to heal that which harms and why do we even want to?  Let's see if we can come up with any answers.

Series Information

This is a series of sermons around the theme PRIVILEGE AND PEACE:  THIS IS AMERICA.  Yes, we are going to dive into some of those more difficult topics that we must address as people of faith. What does it mean to be a Christian and how we deal with privilege or the disparities in education, employment, health care and housing or even Christianity's complicity when it comes to racism.  What is our response as people of faith?  What can we do?  Lots to talk about and even more to do. This series will only occur on the 3rd and 4th Sundays of June, July and August.
