Questioning the Story?

palm

What’s that? This week is Palm Sunday again? Haven’t we read and heard and sung and preached that story eleventy bajillion times by now??

Pretty much. So how do we keep such a frequently-encountered story fresh?

Perhaps the same way we keep any good story fresh: by immersing ourselves in its narrative, by opening ourselves to think and to feel again. Perhaps we keep it fresh by striving to really experience the story and let it move us. After all, there must be a reason we continually return to this particular story, mustn’t there?

Maybe we can see the palms waving in our mind’s eye. Maybe we can hear the roar of the crowd in our imagination. Maybe we can feel the tension building between Jesus and the crowd. Maybe we can feel the tension building between Jesus and the disciples. Maybe we can feel the tension building between Jesus and the Powers That Be.

This Sunday, April 10th, Psalm and Gospel texts will be our guide as we read and sing our way through all of that — with Pastor Dave offering a series of reflections throughout:

“Names for God?”
“What Do We Expect?”
“Wait…What?!”
“What Did He Say?”
“Who Has the Power?”

The reading, signing, and reflecting all join up for an experience Pastor Dave calls, “Questioning the Story?”

Perhaps this narrative has arrived for just such as time as this very one in which we presently find ourselves? Let’s find out together!

All are welcome as we worship together Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. in person and online via our Woodridge UMC YouTube channel.
