Come and Stay

    Acts 16:9-15 & John 14:23-29

In the Gospel of John, the conversation between Jesus and his disciples on his final night continues. Jesus makes it clear that he is about to leave them, and the disciples are struggling with that news. Yet Jesus reassures them that he will not leave them alone. “I will not leave you orphaned,” he says (John 14:18). He promises to continue loving them and revealing himself, not to the world, but to those who love him.

We see this promise fulfilled in the life of Paul. Through the Spirit of God, Jesus reveals himself to Paul and continues to guide him. On his way to Asia, the Spirit redirects Paul and his companions to Philippi, where they meet Lydia—a woman whose faith becomes foundational to the early Christian movement in Europe. When Lydia hears the gospel, she responds immediately. Her faith is decisive, and her witness is powerful. The word opens her heart in love, and she opens her home in hospitality, becoming a lifelong supporter of Paul’s mission and ministry. How might Lydia’s witness stir our own sense of ministry and mission today? Come and join us for Sunday worship—we’d love to explore this together.
