The Message about the Cross

1 Corinthians 1:10-18 / Matthew 4:12-23

What would the world look like if God truly ruled? This Sunday, we will explore Jesus’ opening message in the Gospel of Matthew: “The kingdom of heaven has come near.” When earthly rulers abused power and justice was forgotten, God raised prophets—and ultimately Jesus—to proclaim a different vision of leadership rooted in justice, righteousness, and compassion. From Galilee of the Gentiles, a great light shines, announcing that God’s reign is not limited by borders, status, or power, but is meant for all people.

At the heart of this kingdom stands the cross. Christian faith is not simply something we believe—it is something we live. In the self-giving love revealed on the cross, we meet a God who stands with the weak, the suffering, and the vulnerable. As followers of Jesus, we are invited to love God first, so that love may flow naturally into care for others. Join us this Sunday as we reflect on what it means to live under God’s rule—and to become partners in bringing justice, compassion, and hope into our world.
