Discerning the Present Time
The prophet Isaiah crafted a love song—not to entertain, but to sound an alarm for the elite of Judah. In this song, the beloved owner cares deeply for his vineyard. He chooses fertile soil, digs and clears the land, plants carefully, protects it, and does everything possible to help it flourish. After all that hard work, he expects good fruit. But Isaiah says the crop produced only wild grapes—literally, stinky things.
In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus challenges us in a similar way: just as we can read the signs of the earth and sky, we must also learn to interpret the present time. In other words—are we doing the will of God here and now? This Sunday, we’ll explore this week’s scriptures together and take an honest look at where we stand in our relationship with God and in living out God’s purposes today.
