Every Day is Sabbath
Luke 13:10-17
Jesus encountered a woman who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. Moved with compassion, he called her over and touched her. Immediately, she stood up straight and began praising God. This is the life Jesus calls us to live: through our compassion, kindness, and loving care and through our church’s missions and ministries, we are called to bring healing. Then people will not praise us, but will give praise to God. Through us, others will see God. Our lives must exalt God.
However, the leader of the synagogue became furious because Jesus healed her on the Sabbath. He said, “There are six days for work. Come on one of those days to be healed, not on the Sabbath.” This challenges us to reflect: What is the true purpose of the Sabbath? And who is truly at the center of the Sabbath? Let us think about these questions together this week.
