What's Next?

What’s your story?
That is, what makes you who you are?

Your answer to that will almost certainly vary depending on who is asking, where you are, and other circumstances. But most likely, your response will include something about where you were born and raised. If your life were a superhero movie — and you are awesome, so it totally would be a superhero movie — this would be your origin story.

The Acts of the Apostles (that’s the full title of the book in the bible we usually abbreviate as simply, “Acts”) is the origin story of the Christian church.

[Truthfully, it’s more complicated than that. The church’s full origin story has to include the gospels. And most of Genesis and Exodus. And Isaiah and Jonah. Ok, basically the entirety of the Hebrew Scriptures. It’s a long narrative. For now though…]

The story of Acts helps us understand:

• How did the church start?
• What issues were important then?
• What problems did they face?
• How did they deal with and/or resolve those problems?
• Here in 2018, all these years later, what can we learn from this origin story?
• How might The Acts of the Apostles help us be more faithful disciples of Jesus today?

With the story of Saul’s calling (Acts 9:1-31) as his guide, Pastor Dave will consider those questions in his sermon, “What’s Next?".

Series Information

In this sermon series, the story of the early church unfolds before us. Many of the challenges they faced are the same (or very similar) to the ones we face in 2018. Questions around leadership, why we should believe in the first place, who to believe and the age-old question of who is “in” and who should be kept “out”.
